The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is conducted jointly by the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc). A valid GATE score is used for admission to postgraduate programmes (M.Tech, M.E., MS and PhD) at IITs, NITs, IISc and other institutions — and is also used by many Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) for recruitment.
Exam & Admission Process
GATE is a computer-based test offered in many subject papers (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Science, Electronics and more). The score is valid for three years. PG admission is done through COAP/CCMT and institute-level counselling, while PSUs release their own GATE-score-based recruitment notices.
Please note: the eligible papers, schedule and the organising IIT change every year — always verify on the official GATE website.
