The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) conducts the Engineering Services Examination (ESE), also known as IES, to recruit engineers for various Group A and Group B technical services of the Government of India. It covers four disciplines: Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, and Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering.

Selection & Exam Pattern

The examination has three stages: Preliminary (objective — General Studies & Engineering Aptitude plus the discipline paper), Mains (two conventional discipline papers) and a Personality Test (Interview). The Prelims is a screening stage; the final merit is based on the Mains and the interview.
